Why Change the Font?
While Wildermyth's default Chinese font has a unique and cute style, it can be challenging to read during actual gameplay. Given that this is a game rich in narrative with extensive text content, having a clear and readable font is crucial for the gaming experience.
How to Change the Font
Locating Game Files
If you're using the Steam version:
- Find Wildermyth in your game library
- Click on the gear icon ⚙️
- Select "Manage" > "Browse Local Files"
Font File Location
- Navigate to
~/Wildermyth/assets/fonts
folder - Locate the default Simplified Chinese font file:
ZCOOLKuaiLe-Regular.ttf
Replacement Steps
- Back up the original font file (suggested name:
ZCOOLKuaiLe-Regular.ttf.bak
) - Prepare your preferred font file
- Rename the new font to
ZCOOLKuaiLe-Regular.ttf
- Restart the game to see the font changes
About Traditional Chinese Support
As of the latest version (v1.12 + 556 patch, October 26, 2024), the game still lacks official Traditional Chinese support. While the June 2024 update added French and Spanish language support, Traditional Chinese remains on the planning list.
Temporary Solutions
- Use HanWangMing font that support Simplified to Traditional Chinese conversion
- This allows you to name characters, items, and background stories in Traditional Chinese without encountering garbled text
Known Limitations
- Even after changing the font, game interface and text will remain in Simplified Chinese
- This limitation may be related to the new locale settings mechanism in Unity 6 engine
- Full Traditional Chinese localization still requires official support
Future Outlook
Given the development team's continuous expansion of language support, we may see an official Traditional Chinese version in the future. However, until then, changing the font to improve readability remains the most direct and practical solution.
